Born in Chicago, Illinois, Clayton Alexander discovered the art of lighting design while attending Idyllwild Arts Academy, a small college preparatory school with a focus on professional training for the arts. Proceeding forward with his goals, he attended the California Institute of the Arts, refining and developing his skills as both a lighting designer and an artist. While attending CalArts, he obtained an internship position in lighting and sound at Universal Studios Hollywood.
